For over 90 years, Verdun Hospital has been an integral part of its community. Every day, our teams welcome people of all ages with the same commitment: to provide accessible, effective, and compassionate care.
The expansion and modernization project marks a true transformation in the way we deliver care. Redesigned spaces, state-of-the-art equipment, and a person-centered organization will allow us to better meet the needs of a rapidly growing population.

As a physician, I am delighted to see our care environment becoming more welcoming, safer, and better suited to today’s realities. Our community deserves it. So do our teams.
It is a privilege to be part of this evolution, which will make a real difference for current and future generations.

Project Overview

Since its construction, Verdun Hospital has provided frontline care to a diverse and ever-evolving population. However, its aging infrastructure no longer meets today’s standards and needs for quality, safety, and comfort. Rapid population growth, an aging demographic, and increasingly complex healthcare needs call for modern, adaptable facilities. The expansion and modernization project of Verdun Hospital provides a concrete response to these challenges. With a 60% increase in its total surface area, the hospital will move from the era of 1930s hospitals to that of a state-of-the-art healthcare center.
The main components of the project include
  • A new five-story care and service pavilion housing 144 private rooms, each with a private bathroom and a sleeper chair for loved ones, offering privacy and comfort.
  • An expanded and redesigned outpatient sector to improve accessibility and service efficiency.
    • The number of examination and treatment rooms will increase from 15 to 29 and will include:
      • a casting room
      • a minor surgery room
      • a gynecology procedure room
      • specialized rooms for ophthalmology and ENT
      • Addition of 3 treatment areas and a negative pressure room in the day medicine unit

    • A negative pressure room will also be added in the day medicine unit to improve infection control.
  • A glass walkway connecting the new pavilion to the existing building on each level, facilitating circulation and access to services.
  • A central atrium serving as both a hub for movement and a welcoming space for patients, their loved ones, and care teams.
  • Two new elevator shafts
  • Eco-friendly installations aiming for LEED certification, including:
    • white roofs
    • a green roof section
    • sustainable landscaping

Five Objectives for a Future-Focused Hospital

Beyond the walls and equipment, the Verdun Hospital transformation project is built on an ambitious vision of healthcare: an integrated, human, and innovative approach that places the individual at the heart of every decision.

Five key objectives guide this transformation. Together, they shape a hospital that is more efficient, more accessible, and deeply rooted in the real needs of its community.

More Time for Care

Working Together as a Learning Organization

By relying on objective data, continuous practice analysis, and collaborative approaches, teams will be able to make informed decisions, adjust interventions, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Eliminating Barriers to Care

Simplify care pathways, bring services closer to where people live, and reduce wait times through better-designed spaces and a more accessible outpatient sector.

Empowering Patients to Take an Active Role in Their Care Plan

Strengthen autonomy through therapeutic education, self-management support, and the promotion of each individual’s active role. As a university-affiliated institution, Verdun Hospital also plays a key role in training the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Contributing Positively to the Health and Well-Being of the Population

By focusing on proximity, continuity, and well-designed environments, the hospital becomes a driver of social transformation for the benefit of its community.
