Created over ten years ago, L’Adresse (formerly Boxing for School) is a youth intervention initiative focused on physical activity, motivation, and academic perseverance.
Thanks to the generosity of several donors, a gym has been set up in a high school in a Montreal neighborhood, providing young people with atypical educational trajectories with a safe and stimulating training space.
The program offers high-intensity training sessions, supervised by a qualified coach and a social worker from the CIUSSS Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, without any combat element.
The goal: to help young people develop discipline, self-esteem, and better lifestyle habits in a supportive environment where positive outcomes are experienced daily.
The program welcomes vulnerable youth, both during school hours and through after-school activities. Each session includes a discussion about nutrition and healthy lifestyles, which encourages dialogue and strengthens the bond of trust between young people and the team of professionals.
By helping them recognize their strengths and celebrate their small successes, L’Adresse directly contributes to the development of self-esteem, perseverance, and positive relationships with their peers and the adults who support them. The program also facilitates access to specialized psychosocial resources, while promoting the physical benefits of regular physical activity.
The nutrition part of the program, which is always popular, is still a key part of the psychosocial approach. These informal chats about food and lifestyle happen in a positive setting, which makes it easier to talk and boosts the program’s impact.
Julien Bérubé, the program’s social worker, works closely with the sports coach, school administrators and staff, and several community organizations in the neighborhood.
“We always strive to ensure that the school gym is used as often as possible and reaches as many young people as possible.”
Julien Bérubé, social worker at CIUSSS-du-Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal
A total of 280 young people used the gym during the 2025 school year. And this number keeps growing every year.
