Our Mission and History

At Fondation Santé Urbaine, we work hand in hand with the teams at the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal to humanize health care, from birth to the end-of-life.

Our mission rests on 3 key principles that define and guide our daily work

We firmly believe that every action and interaction matters. We support initiatives that create environments where every person feels respected and understood. By improving care and living settings and paying specific attention to the most vulnerable among us, we put people at the heart of our priorities.
After the human being, the next principle driving our engagement is innovation. We develop and support forward-thinking programs that meet the evolving needs of the community. By promoting prevention initiatives and innovative health-care practices, we help clinical teams provide services that always live up to the expectations of the population.
We invest in high-performance medical equipment to ensure clinical teams have the best tools to provide high-quality care. These investments help reduce wait times, facilitate convalescence, and improve the quality of interventions, while always striving to offer the best level of care to the greatest number of people.

Our History

Fondation Santé Urbaine was created from the merger of the Fondation de l’Hôpital de Verdun and the Fondation santé et mieux-être Jeanne-Mance, two foundations that had been supporting the Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal population for close to 40 years.

Rooted in Montréal’s Centre-Sud neighbourhood, Fondation Santé Urbaine serves a population that is among the most vulnerable and socioeconomically disadvantaged in the Montréal area.

Issues such as addiction, domestic violence, loss of autonomy, school dropout, homelessness, psychological disorders, social maladjustment, and degenerative diseases are pervasive.
