Care beyond treatment

At the CIUSSS Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, we are fortunate to count on compassionate healthcare professionals who are deeply committed to caring for their users and residents with attentive listening and a reassuring presence.

Through various programs, we provide additional support to help these professionals in their mission — such as transportation for oncology treatments, at-home care, and assistance in covering the cost of medication.

Mélanie is a licensed practical nurse at the blood test centre of Notre-Dame Hospital.

Every day, she welcomes dozens of users. But beyond delivering medical care, she takes an interest in the overall well-being of the people she meets.

“At Notre-Dame Hospital, every day I see people in their most vulnerable moments. Some just once, others several times a week.

I always try to look beyond the reason for the visit and see the person as a whole.

How are they doing? Have they eaten? Do they have the support they need at home?

We’re lucky — the Foundation of our hospital has a strong community mission. Thanks to them, we can support people in their daily lives, beyond clinical care.

We can offer safe, free transportation for those who are alone and have difficulty getting to their oncology treatments. We can help those who need home care equipment or who can’t afford their medication.

In addition to specialized equipment and research projects, the Foundation gives us the means to truly care for people. Because it’s in our DNA, and I’m so grateful to have the tools to do it, every single day.”

Mélanie, thank you so much for everything you do for the community and for Notre-Dame Hospital.

We need you to help families like Antoine’s. From Verdun to the Plateau, whether in hospitals, CLSCs or CHSLDs, your donations make all the difference and bring these stories of hope to life.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
