Regardless of age, going to the hospital is always a bit stressful. For a sick child, the experience can quickly become terrifying.
To help our little munchkins feel better, we are planning to transform the aging and poorly laid out pediatric unit into a welcoming and soothing space, specifically designed for children and their families.
Imagine rooms decorated with soft and welcoming colours, bright and stimulating play areas, and caring environments where kids and their families can relax.
A place where every visit to the hospital is a little less scary, and where our young patients feel safe and at ease.
Since its founding, the Notre-Dame Hospital has played a crucial role in the development of pediatrics in Quebec. Did you know that it was at this very hospital, over 150 years ago, that Dr. Séverin Lachapelle created the first free specialized clinic for kids? Our hospital also welcomed the first students in pediatrics from the University of Montréal, training generations of doctors specialized in the health of our tiny tots.
The story of our establishment is marked by a profound commitment to children’s health care and, with your help, this tradition can live on.
Today, pediatrics goes far beyond traditional physical health care. Community social pediatrics has become an integral part of the work of care teams. By collaborating regularly with local community organizations, we can take better care of the physical, psychological, and social health of children and families in vulnerable situations. Because all children deserve the best quality of care, but also support that considers their living environments and specific challenges.
The Notre-Dame Hospital was initially built for adults. When the Pediatric Clinic opened, the spaces were not adapted to the needs young patients. Thanks to the support of our community, this project will allow us to welcome kids in a colourful setting, better suited and specifically designed for them, all while helping take some of the pressure off the major pediatric hospitals in the city.
