For 26 years, this after-school program has been working with teenagers at risk of dropping out and falling into delinquency, in the heart of one of Quebec’s most socially disadvantaged neighbourhoods. Bien dans mes baskets uses basketball to foster motivation, self-esteem, and academic perseverance among youth. The result? 96% of student-athletes who completed the program over the past decade went on to continue their studies.
Thanks to a donation from the Fondation J.-Louis Lévesque, the program is going strong.
In concrete terms, this support enables École secondaire Jeanne-Mance to establish a true hall of fame: a unifying space within the school’s walls that highlights inspiring journeys — a place that fuels pride and a sense of belonging, while creating a thread connecting former Dragons, current jersey-wearers, and the young people who will follow in their footsteps.
This donation also supports another cherished component of the program: participation in tournaments outside the school. Teams come together to compete against other schools and return from the experience stronger and more united than ever.
And the story goes on, one basket at a time.
